This is the front of the funny-looking building I posted yesterday. It's the entrance of the Aliw Theater, and I'm sure you all see the letters. Aliw is a Tagalog word which means entertainment, amusement. Most of the performances staged here are popular concerts, although it is also the main performance venue of Ballet Manila. I still say the building looks strange and gaudy. Okay, only on the outside, but still…
Now, looking at people, I realize how huge it is!
ReplyDeleteThis is trully a wonderful design and colors, Hilda. Very eye-catching!
ReplyDeletele symbole du milieu fait vraiment penser a une danseuse. j'aime beaucoup, c'est plein de vie.
ReplyDeletethe symbol of middle really think of a dancer. I love you, is full of life.
you have one of the most incredibly interesting buildings i have seen in a city in a long time. that spiky skyline coupled with the flamboyant colours of ALIW must really brighten up the city.
ReplyDeletethese photos remind me of another weird and wonderful building which i saw once in vienna when i was touring was the hundertwasser haus (http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/p/m/1e13e0/)
Very surprising...
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a bellet of dance...
This is a strange building, you are right. However, I do see the letters you mentioned. Very colorful indeed.
ReplyDeleteI think I'd agree with your assesment of the outsdie of the building. But I'd like to see some of the entertainment inside.
ReplyDeleteTo me, it looks just typically artsy. It's probably more the bright colors that surprise people.
ReplyDeleteWhen was is constructed? I've never seen it there before...=) funny nga hehe....parang rocket ship! lol.
ReplyDeleteIt is an interesting and colorful building.
ReplyDeleteThese letters are also spiky and I can see them also in the other picture. Wow, this building is really interesting. I hope you can show us also the inside. Ciao!!
ReplyDeleteWow, it is gigantic! The w reminds me of the top of a pineapple :)
ReplyDeleteFull of color to warm us
ReplyDeleteThey are huge letters! It makes the entrance very dramatic - and easy to see!
ReplyDeleteGlad I've found another Doctor Who fan in the CDPB family. It's a must see programme for me although I do have to wait a whole week for the next episode, at least you can see them in one go on dvd!
think I like the wider angle shot better. okay, now you sneak in and get some undercover shots of the ballet in action!
ReplyDeleteSeeing only the entrance its kind of strange, but I can see from yesterday's post the it comes well together.
ReplyDeleteWith colors that bright it must cheer up the people who pass by everyday.,
ReplyDeletehehehe i'm sorry that i have to agree with your assessment hilda. aliw evokes a different connotation to me, plus the colors? I'm still willing to go inside and check the interior of the building hehehe
ReplyDeletestrange and gaudy is good. strange and gaudy is wicked. i love the colors.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteIm sure the colours will cheer up the city people.
Have a nice day.
I like this designe, too. It has a tropical mood:)
ReplyDeleteYou can't say it's not colorful! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Hilda! That is an interesting building. It reminds me of my trip last year to Boston and more specifically, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) university. They have some really unusual building designs. almost breaks conventional wisdom as to how they stand in the face of gravity!
ReplyDeleteAn amazing lettering job. I wonder how long it took them to figure this out? It is really nice to see things like this, Hilda.
ReplyDeleteI hasten to add that it took me some time to see the letters even after you told us what they were.
y gosh it's enourmous and so in your face in colour. I imagine this would be a great meating place for dtangers. You couldn't exactly miss it.
ReplyDeleteI think this looks so cool! I was shocked when I saw how small the people were!
