Pinoy jazz

Jazz night at Ten 02 Bar in the Timog–Tomas Morato area of Quezon City. Many of our local musicians play for different bands, sometimes of different genres. Sometimes too, the members of a band may change depending on who's available for a particular gig. This band's name is Akasha. A few sets afterward, the same drummer, bassist and keyboardist came on with guitarist Riki Gonzales and it became Balooze.

  1. sympathique, ce piano jazz, j'aime bien quand c'est de l'improvisation avec des musiciens de passage.

sympathique, this piano jazz, I like when it's improvisation with musicians passing through.

  2. When I first glanced at your title, I thought it said "phony jazz." I was wondering what the heck that could be!

I like the idea of musicians rotating through different bands. I'm sure it keeps them creative. It must get boring playing the same songs in the same genre all the time.

  3. How interesting that the members of the band can change and that the same musicians can become different bands. I guess that's what makes jazz so enjoyable.

  4. I remember once I was the MC at a fund-raising even featuring several bands. I introduced the first band, they played, and stayed on stage. The coordinators said "get up there and introduce the next band." I was confused. The drummer yelled at me that they were the next band....all the same guys, different name. They didn't even leave the stage and pretend to be a different.

  6. Goody you're back! Neat angle on this, Hilda. I like that dark, smoky atmosphere you've conjured there, typical jazz club.Jazz is really popular here too though only a few musicians make a living at it.

  8. Nice jazzy atmosphere in this photo. I think musicians need to work all they can, often to make ends meet!

  15. love this shot - reminds me of how long it's been since I've been to a jazz club. the musicians in Knoxville do the same thing with swapping players.
