High-ways

Epifanio de los Santos Avenue, or EDSA for short, is one of Metro Manila's most important arterial roads. One end of its circumferential, 24 kilometer (15 mile) length lies in Caloocan City in the north. Then it passes through Quezon City, Mandaluyong City, Makati City and Pasay City, where its other end lies. In an effort to ease the flow of traffic on EDSA, flyovers and interchanges were built over major intersections. And in the hope that fewer buses would be needed on its route, the Manila Metro Rail Transit System (MRT) also runs along most of its length. Neither seems to have helped much. About the only time that EDSA isn't congested is Sunday mornings, which was when I took this photo from the Quezon Avenue MRT station.

  1. Fascinating shot! And you answered my first thought - where are all the cars?

    Have a great day!

  2. You found a great spot to take the picture. Traffic doesn't seem to be a problem there. Oh and 7-11 must be everywhere, even in little Newtown there's one on the corner near us.

  3. une vue grand angle qui permet de bien voir les deux options. les embouteillages étant un gros problème dans beaucoup de villes.
a view big angle which allows to see both options definitely. traffic jams being a big problem in many cities.

  5. What a neat shot. Over here it seems that new roads just add to the congestion rather than relieving it. Unfortunately we rarely have public transportation as an alternative.

  8. Even though there's no one in the pic, I can imagine the traffic there. That's one good thing about Jackson - we don't have much traffic!

  12. Isn't it too bad that so many people are just not interested in using the public transportation? Beautiful shot Hilda, and you sure did take it at the right time.

It seems it doesn't matter how many highways, by-ways, freeways they build they will be immediately crowed. where are all these cars coming from??? LOL MB

  15. I like this kind of photos that show how a city really works or, in this case, rests.

  18. Seems like the more roads they build, the more cars there are.
