Walking along the mossy ramparts of the historic
Fort Santiago in
Intramuros, I spied a statue of Philippine National Hero
Jose Rizal through the branches of a flowering Caballero/Flame Tree (
Delonix regia) in a gated and locked room inside the roofless ruins of a former Spanish military barracks. Rizal was incarcerated at Fort Santiago before his execution in Bagumbayan (Luneta or
Rizal Park) in 1896.

Wonderful shot Hilda. Love the green and bright red against that tile and concrete. The opposing leaves remind me somewhat of our Sumac.
ReplyDeleteYou are so good, Hilda. This is an incredibly beautiful shot...composition, colors and light - everything's perfect!
ReplyDeleteVery fine shot, Hilda - and interesting history!
ReplyDeleteWell I am glad to know that there are still a couple of caballero's around Intramurous. I seldom see them, even the one in my Grandfather's backyard is gone.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful indeed. Thanks for viewing mine.
ReplyDeleteI learnt about Jose Rizal during history class in lower secondary school. He is indeed a national hero. The tree in your picture looks like the flame of the forest tree.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by my playground. I really appreciate it. That is a wonderful photo and the story that goes with it is very interesting. Thanks so much for sharing. Have a wonderful Sunday :)
