Touché

We had lunch with my husband's family at The Podium mall yesterday, where a fencing competition was going on. Sponsored by the mall and the Philippine Fencing Association, the competition was also meant to raise awareness about the sport, promote the association and, hopefully, excite enough interest from young mall-goers so they will take up fencing. The little girl in the pink shirt was watching the competition with complete attention (though her older sister wasn't)—think she'll ask her parents for epee, foil or sabre lessons some time soon?

    i only knew of one who fenced in my entire life and i am sure he no longer dabbles :)

    it looks like a fun sport and i hope it gets a following.

    Very modern idea for the kid, but I imagine her in some ballet lesson! LOL

    I like that kids in the Philippines are getting into more and more different kind of sports. When I came here 20 years ago people looked at us as if we were crazy to bicycle for fun... today I see groups of kids mountain biking on the mountain trails I hike. My house angel's 13-year-old son is a black-belt karate kid. Hope the girl in the pink gets her wish. Nice post, Hilda.

    Oh neat! I hope the little girl does take up fencing. It is a graceful sport.

    As a teenager growing up in Chicago I took a fencing course at the YMCA.
    Funny, what I remember is the ache in your leg when practicing the lunge time after time. :)

    I don't recall ever having seen a fencing competition (other than the James Bond movies)...

    One would probably need good hand-eye coordination!

    What a neat picture. I hope the effort to attract young people is successful. The U.S. has had some success in attracting new people to this sport.
