A new store selling used books recently opened just two blocks away from our house. My husband and I went on opening day and this scene is what greeted us. It's name is Bookay-ukay, a play on the words 'book' and 'ukay-ukay'—our word for second-hand goods (mostly used in reference to clothes). I hope the shop lasts and that they get a wider selection of books, but more than anything, I hope they get some shelves—my poor body could hardly bear all the squatting and bending I had to put it through that afternoon. Though Bookay-ukay may be more convenient, I doubt if it'll replace our favorite used-book store, Books for Less—see its exterior here and its storeroom here.

Hi Hilda - if the store doesn't have shelves, maybe bring a small stool or chair. I bet there are some treasures to find, although it may take a lot of digging.
i love used book stores. But yea, where are the shelves? That is funny! Though not for your back...
Looks like a great place to browse all day.
Chez nous il y a des "foires aux livres" de ce type. Qui servent à récolter de l'argent pour Amnesty International. On y trouve parfois des livres intéressants.
Looks like a place I could enjoy!
is it second hand book, difficult to find such as that ground in my city..
these stores are a real treasure chest! worth the aches one has to go thru!
This looks like my kind of place. I could happily spend hours rumaging through those piles on the floor. I ofte find charity shops have the best books. I am discovering Manilla through your eyes and interesting place it is.
They should also open a small coffee stand inside the store. :-)
Books & coffee go very nicely together.
Can't resist book stores. This looks like fun except for the lack of shelves. I like Ming's comment. Coffee and books do go well together. Browse and sip a coffee.
I am so with you on this one...no noise for me while I am reading! I work in a Library and kids these days miss that whole concept of quiet!
