Bloop

Despite what its name suggests, Burgoo American Bar and Restaurant is completely Filipino created and owned. What is American about it is the type of food that it serves and the size of its servings. Maybe I can feature its food one of these days, but right now, this isn't about the food—which I think is great, just for the record. Their branch in The Podium in Mandaluyong City has a separate room for private parties of up to twenty people (we call them 'function rooms'). The ceiling lamps are very colorful and I think they're cute. But it's in the middle of the restaurant and has floor-to-ceiling glass walls! Honestly, I felt like a fish in a fishbowl.

beaux reflets, qui donnent une impression de salles qui n'en finissent jamais

beautiful reflections, which give an impression of rooms that do not finish

Hi Hilda,

I would have to be in one of the function rooms to appreciate it. I don't mind being seen or being able to see out when I am at dinner and I don't mind paying the price if the food is good.

I hope you get around to a sample of the food report. I know in my old haunts in Japan, in Sendai, they do have an "American" style restaurant complete with the foods and drinks we are accustomed to. My friends tell me the hamburgers are not quite the same and think it might be in the buns used. I don't know about anything else.

When I was there over 50 years ago, they didn't have any restaurants but lots of bars. I was able to taste something called a "Pizza" in downtown Sendai at the American soldier's club. They only had one kind. Cheese. And it was good but who would have thought that would lead to what we have these days?

Your photography is nice and caught all of the reflections.

One thing I miss here, from being in the UK is the diversity of food. Even though I 'm a veggie I just like the idea of choice and melting pots of flavours. Those lampshades are so eyecatching, like little balloons floating by.

Hilda, I like the reflections of houses and indeed, the colors of the lamps, especially the orange reflections.

The reflections of the lamps on the glass walls actually look like fish swimming by in your fishbowl!

p.s. If you like olives, take a look at my recipe for fried olives on my other blog: http://amid-the-olive-trees.blogspot.com

The lamps do look like fish swimming by..it must be the colours. Personally I like a more discreet, intimate dining experience. I'd find this too open no matter how good the food...

It looks like a very cool place (apart from the fishbolw thing... hehe!).

I like how the artwork on the wall seems to blend with the reflections of everything. I'll be curious to see what is considered American. I've been told that much of the Chinese and Mexican restaurants here have altered the recipes and presentation to better suit Anglo-American tastes.
