Music hath charms

I saw this man just sitting at the edge of the bay walk, listening to music, and staring at the water and the boats. Of course, I just had to take his picture too. Then he started to fuss with his music player and I saw that it wasn't an MP3 player, as I assumed it was, but a CD player. The songs had played to the end and he was changing the CD. So, can you correctly finish my post's title—a line from William Congreve's "The Mourning Bride?"

  1. I like this photo. I could finish the line from your title, but I won't post it because I cheated by Googling it! :)

  2. What a beautiful imagine. So much to take in and absorb. The boats, the water, that amazing lamp and of course the man in the foreground. We wonder 'what is he thinking?' cos he's obviously 'thinking.'

  7. He's thinking about all the poor souls who aren't fortunate enough to be sitting right there enjoying the view. I just noticed that great lantern. It's so large and makes a perfect accompaniment to this photograph. Great composition.

  8. This man's pensive nature makes him seem more like poet than savage beast... (Hey, do I get a gold star for remembering that poem? :-) )

I love the composition, the mood, the intimacy of this photo. And that lamp really makes the shot doesn't it? Nice work, Hilda!

  9. I would probably do the same thing as what this man was doing if I were there - a beautiful evening on the bay. Nice, Hilda!

  10. For some reason I like that big lamp.

Question, do you ask people if it's ok to take their picture? I would feel uncomfortable shooting a stranger. I wonder sometimes about that when I see people on the DP blogs.

  11. What a great photo! The oversized lamp and the contemplative man seem incongruous at first. But then, the two come together and create a wonderful portrait and metaphor for life.

    Well done!

  13. I had to cheat, too, so I won't tell. How funny that we think a CD player is outdated. I used to own records/vinyl.

Close. "Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast"—not beast. :)

  19. A definite slice of life in Manila. Is that the Baywalk? I should go visit there.
