Begging for a new coat of paint

On December 30, 1954, the priests of the Order of Discalced Carmelites in the Philippines laid the cornerstone for the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in New Manila, Quezon City. Almost a decade later, the shrine was inaugurated on July 15, 1964. Mount Carmel is a mountain range in Israel closely associated with the prophet Elijah. The Roman Catholic Carmelite order was founded on that mountain range by Saint Berthold in the 12th century, hence its name.

  2. It's a charming shrine. It's it really a painted building? It looks like stone from my view.

  3. Very stately, although you are right, it could use a coat of paint!

  8. I like your angle on this photo. The church looks older than 1954, maybe because it is so gray.

  10. I like the palm trees too. I also really appreciate the effort you make in giving us a bit of the history - I must admit although I do that sometimes, a lot of the time I'm rather lazy about it.

  11. Or if not paint then a good going over with the high pressure hose...what's it made of?? I'm guessing stone but it looks more like concrete.

  12. Palm trees bring back memories that this is not a place of ice and snow. I also like your photograph and your story behind it.

  13. To answer your wishes in your comment about our granddaughter in the war. She came home with some issues and after all this time is just getting back on her feet.
