Whether they're in upscale, gated communities or in open, middle-class neighborhoods, most homes in Metro Manila are completely surrounded by walls. They delineate the property, provide privacy and make it a bit more difficult for robbers to get in. This house is in Blue Ridge Subdivision in Quezon City, a gated community on the low end of the upscale spectrum (the streets are narrow—really upscale subdivisions have wide streets). The house seems to be single-level and you can't even see it because of the wall, which the owner roofed over for the three-car garage. I like those gates with the wooden planks, not a common sight here because our half-year rainy season can easily rot exposed wood. Beyond the pedestrian gate, the wall ends and they only have an iron fence, but the lush plants on both sides of it provide an effective and lovely screen.
beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteIn Portugal every house has a fence or a wall to delineate the property. You will never find here just the lawn in front like they have in the US.

ReplyDeleteI love it when you teach us about your culture from The First Pig in Heaven to the gates of "low-end" upscale communities.

That's a lovely screen, you're right about that. I wonder what life must be like though on the other side, completely cut off from the outside world.
ReplyDeleteThe wood gate doors are really beautiful architectural details. I do wonder how they will make sure the wood does not rot. I once put out wood vigas and latillas over a ping pong table in my backyard and we always had to oil the wood to keep it from being damages. A constant chore even though thee wood looked great.
ReplyDeleteMakes me curious to see behind that wall!

ReplyDeleteThat looks nice! Sometimes I wish I had a wall around my house to shield me from my really noisy next door neighbors!
ReplyDeleteI love the way the wall was used to make a garage. It is really quite attractive.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo and interesting information! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo
ReplyDeleteHouses here too have walls or hedges and there are many gated communities though they're not all upmarket. I like taking the bus as you can see over the walls!
ReplyDeleteI'm not too sure about that screen. It seems a little prison-like.
It would be hard to get to know your neighbors...
ReplyDeleteIndeed the plants make up for a lovely screen. Fits well with the white wall, which is beautiful enough and doesn't need murals like many other concrete walls.
ReplyDeleteHop the fence and steal some pics !
ReplyDeleteThe owner did a great job with the design of the garage. It looks really classy.
ReplyDeletei like the planks too but i still find houses with big lawn beautiful. just as you mentioned, here in the philippines, having a wall is still recommended.
ReplyDeleteThat's quite different from here in the US. Most homes have fences around the back of the property but the front is open. Our home has no fence at all!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very nice and exclusive.
