Vulnerability

Notice in yesterday's photo of the train station that all the people within view are women. I'm not sure about the two LRT lines because I've rarely used them, but in the MRT, the first set of cars are reserved for women, children and senior citizens. If a child is accompanied by a male guardian, then he can stay there too. When I'm traveling alone, I always stay in those first cars. The sisterhood of women may really just be a dream, but I feel much safer there than in the other cars, especially during rush hour when people are packed like sardines.

    Very interesting. In Germany a lot of shops have parking for women close to the stores so they won't have to walk across a lone parking lot at night. I've never heard of separate cars for women (except in Muslim countries), but I think it's a good idea. Although it would be better if there was an end to violence period.

    I would ride with the women, too, to feel safer in any major city. That's so nice that it's provided! The yellow theme has been somewhat of a challenge for me!

    I can remember when no man would stay seated if a woman was standing. That doesn't seem to be true anymore.

    I remember when I was visiting Mexico City, I saw that as well.
    It's a great idea and like you said, worth a lot during rush hour.

    in mumbai our local trains have these exclusive ladies compartments and in addition there are a couple of exclusively ladies trains to accommodate the large number of ladies that commute daily for work! this is to ensure that they have a safe tension free commute from and to work.

    This is very interesting and the 1st time I read about it. I can imagine myself visiting Manila and making everyone look at me for taking the wrong car... lol!
