White house

Privacy walls are almost a necessity in Metro Manila, and more and more people try to make the walls look like an integral part of their home rather than just something to keep strangers out. I like how the owner of this house extended the privacy wall to accommodate those extra large doors then created a covered path to the front door of the house.

  1. Surrounding houses with walls can make the street scenes cold and uninviting, but I agree with you that this house has dressed up the entrance to add visual appeal both for the passersby and for the guests.

I have just caught up with your posts for the last couple of weeks because I was traveling in Morocco, so I apologize for this late comment about your series on Corregidor. it was outstanding and a real service to educate your readers.

Ny father was a career U.S. Navy officer who served in the South Pacific during World War II. We lived in Hawaii when he was stationed at a Navy base there, and he would visit the Philippines in his duties at that time. The information in your posts and the photos showing what Corregidor looks like today were fascinating.

  2. I agree. This is very attractive. Why are such walls "almost a necessity?" Is it for privacy, robbers or both?

  3. Last night I saw a wonderful TV show about Manila. It showed the street sign you posted for 'odd shots' and many other places of interest you have posted... your photos were better, Hilda.

  4. I like the way they have made it look more inviting! I wonder what that room is up front on the second floor with all the windows. Looks like a great place to sit and watch what is going on below!

  5. The streetscape appears very well kept and tidy.
People obviously take a lot of pride in their suburb both within and outside their homes.

  6. I like the design of the house. Looks like it was designed by an architect and not just a builder.

    Very neat!

  7. My wish for your town is that privacy walls will become unneeded.

  8. In a way it reminds me of a modern day fortress.

  9. Beautiful house!
I think there's a tendency to put in front of the house huge walls to protect private life.

  11. The house looks very modern and reminds me of "Bauhaus-style".
As it seems all White Houses need a wall.

  12. I agree that the owner of this house did a good job of integrating the wall with the house design. We're not allowed to have fences or walls where we live. Sometimes I think they would be nice.

  15. This is very nice. I like the screen. It is nice and at first it reminded me of a garage door.

Many years ago, when I was in Arizona, the yards and homes were all screened from the public by adobe walls or dense thorn hedges.

  16. Probably no architecture prize in sight, but it is not bad at all. It looks quite well planned with the plants and the trees all around.

  17. It looks very private. A shame, but I guess it's necessary.

  18. Yes, it actually makes a feature of it. Nice.

  19. Let me echo Jacob's question, why would this be a necessity? We're not allowed large fences or walls either.

  21. we have a neighbor whose house was pure white too. we call it the white house eversince we were kids! but they recently repainted their house to brownish. we wanted to protest. hehe..but we still call it the white house.

i love this photo. i agree with the covered path to the doorway. and i llove big doors. they make houses look imposing.

  22. I love the architecture also. The large window, the angled roof line. With the entryway it really does detract from the wall.

  27. Every house has its wall here, not so much for the roberies as you can easily jump it in most cases, but just for the privacy matter.
