At an intersection in front of the golf course inside the Veterans Memorial Medical Center compound in Quezon City, a lady was selling rags made out of fabric scraps and some kids were begging. The car's windows remained determinedly closed, which means she didn't sell any and the kids didn't get a single centavo. This intersection is very near the large squatter community I showed you last month and this scene is quite common all over Metro Manila.
Sad. I wish people didn't have to live this way.
ReplyDeletePoverty is depressing...I give her credit, though, for trying to do something to earn money to feed her family!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sad commentary on our world -- some have so little and others have so much.
ReplyDeleteI'm used to seeing homeless people on the streets here, but not children begging like that. It is so sad.
ReplyDeleteSo sad! I use to see the same situation here in Brazil.
ReplyDeleteLéia
I've seen this type of thing many times in my past. Seeing the Pacific via the US Navy opened my eyes to the many different types of people in the world.
ReplyDeleteKids and poor people that are not as lucky as others, begging for food and a hand-out. I've seen kids in Olongpo City jump off a small bridge just to retrieve a quarter. The water was muddy and nasty looking. Kids in Hong Kong coming up to me and begging for money.
While in Hong Kong for 4 day's, we had "Sampam Susie" come on board with her 4 other girls and paint the entire ship! The only payment she wanted was to stand at the end of the chow line and take all the scrap food that we did not eat!
Hi Friend.. Interesting post.. Do keep up the good work.. visit my blog and post your comments.. Take care mate.. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteHi again, Hilda. Just wanted to mention that you've been TAGGED!!!
ReplyDeletePlease go to Ocala Daily Photo to learn all about it (http://ocaladailyphoto.blogspot.com).
Have a wonderful day!
This picture makes me want to give the children food, clothing, or toys. Sad....
ReplyDeleteIt really is another world to anything I would see here. Heartbreaking to see and I'm with Brad. Excellent photo, for showing real life.
ReplyDeleteThe crisis is global
ReplyDeleteBeing poor in any part of the world has to be a pretty dismal experience!
ReplyDeleteSome people just do what is necessary to keep going. I agree you have to respect that to a certain degree.
ReplyDeletewhat's good is they're not stealing. i hope they get enough for the day or more.
ReplyDeleteIt is sad and now there are millions more joining the unemployed ranks that leads to poverty.
ReplyDeleteHilda: It always tears at one's heart to see begging and the poverty all around us. We may see hand-held signs at stop lights here that read, "Need Money. Food. Work," or "I'm a Veteran. Please help." What does a person do? Thank you for making us more aware of conditions in your own country.
ReplyDeletewe usually just give biscuits or food instead of money to the street beggars.
ReplyDeleteHilda, thanks for the reminder of how much people are struggling today. It is always inspiring to see the human side of life and the human ingenuity and industriousness to make the best of a situation and keep working to improve and survive for the children. Also, thanks for your comments on my site. I am glad that you enjoyed the colorful sunset photo that looked like a mouth at sunset. I have my nightscape series going for the next few days. I have a saguaro at night painted with light on long exposure up today and will have moon photos up for the next three days.
ReplyDelete"the poor you will always have among you"
ReplyDeletestill true today, sadly
