School opening… sort of

The main entrance of Claret School of Quezon City looks quite elegant but just around the corner, they didn't even bother putting a smooth concrete finish on the wall of cemented hollow blocks. But they did ask the kids to paint illustrations on it. I just hope the school didn't cut those trees because of the painting project. The school year of the Philippines usually begins in the first two weeks of June, but many schools have delayed their opening by a week or two because the A(H1N1) virus has finally made its appearance here and is spreading quickly.

    Better than the graffiti I can see at the schools in my area. And the schools here closed for the summer yesterday.

    hummm I had an adorable thought now! I'm just imagining several cute kids paiting this wall...almost I can hear their sweet voices!Magnificent mural!
    Great idea!
    As you probably already know, I used to be a music and art teacher.Oh dear please, don't ask me "WHEN" LOL :-)
    But it was in my twenties ( not so ago!!!ops )...fabulous time and I miss it so much :-(

    To be in contact with those little ones is something so valuable , we learn a lot with children and their world!

    By the way, it's coming a "long weekend for us in Brazil" because the Corpus Christi Holiday.The Feast of Corpus Christi will be celebrated next Thursday.So,I will travel for some days, visiting my home town.

    I really like these murals, the kids must have had a great time, and it's brilliant that they have this investment in their school.

    PS I forgot to respond to your question from a few days ago - yes St Mungo is real, not just a JK Rowling character - he's the founder of Glasgow actually, and is also known as St Kentigern. There are a lot of St Mungo's churches in Scotland dedicated to him.

    I would guess the trees were cut for the purpose of seeing the murals. It is a shame they butchered them so badly.

    I really like it when the community involves kids in mural projects. the kids learn something and have great memories every time they visit. they also learn to be a part of a bigger project with a great result. I am glad you enjoyed the pool and Phoenician resort on my site.

    I agree that the murals are very nice, but I too hope the trees weren't cut down for that purpose. I also hope the flu quickly departs from your area.
