The east concessionaire

Back in 1997, the water distribution system of Metro Manila was privatized to raise much-needed revenue for the government and to provide better services. The metro was divided between two companies, with the Manila Water Company getting the eastern areas. The initial contract with the government-owned Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) is for 25 years but just last month, the contract had already been extended for another 15 years. I'm glad. They have been replacing old water pipes throughout their service areas and, aside from the fact that this conserves precious clean water, ever since Manila Water took over we have had no problems with weak water pressure or, worse, interrupted water supply—not uncommon in the years before 1997.

    How nice to hear about city services that actually work like they are supposed to.

    And good water is about the most important thing, for we can't live without water!

    Fortunately, our city services in Ocala are also excellent.

    It's good to hear of good municipal services, especially water. Like electricity it's one of those things we take for granted and is so necessary for modern life. Have a great week.

    It's rare to hear of good municipal services, but usually water is the exception.

    London's Victorian pipes are being replaced seems it is going to take years and years.

    You don't realize how important good clean water is until you don't have it! I lived in a city once where you had to buy drinking water because the tap water was so full of phosphates. It was a pain!

    It's good to hear of a government program that actually works the way it is supposed to. We really need to do something about replacing old water pipes over here in the U. S.
