Lazy Sunday afternoon

After a heavy, delicious meal, what better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon than playing board and card games with family and friends? Aside from taking a nap, that is. The past five years have seen a resurgence of the popularity of tabletop games in Manila, thanks to European designer games. The games are not inexpensive, however, so it didn't surprise me when I once saw a board game café somewhere. Though I'm not against computer or video games, there is much to be said for games where you face other people rather than a video screen. This particular game is Bamboleo, a balance game that can tax your dexterity. Can you guess the goal of the game?

  1. Since you said it was a balance game, I'm guessing that you need to add (or remove) pieces to the arm without making the thing fall over. If that's so, I don't think I would be very good at it!

  2. That's a neat game. I'd probably win all the time, I'm good with balancing bottles and glasses and plates, one on top of another :))

  4. les jeux reviennent à la mode, et je trouve cela bien. voila un type de jeux ou je suis nul, car je suis très maladroit
games return to fashion, and I find it well. veils a type of games or I am void, because I am very clumsy

  5. Nice image of a funny board game I never heard of. The name and the photo show that equilibrium is involved and I am not so good at these things.
May I go back to your 'aside from taking a nap'?

  9. I LOVE board games! Playing them is one of the best things about family gatherings in my home. This one looks tricky - but I bet you would also get a lot of laughs.

  10. I think you're right about facing other people, unless, of course, you don't like them! ;-)

I'm afraid Bamboleo has me bamboozled.

I think it would be hard to play this the way it leans - maybe the point is to catch all the pieces before they fall to the floor?

    ;-))))

  12. I'm sure the loser is the person that makes it all fall down! Great way to spend sometime.

  13. I love board games, too. The simpler the better. Bamboleo is like yenga or pick-a-stick. You need a steady hand and a velvet touch.

  14. To see who can build the tallest without it toppling over?? The design is really intricate and contemporary. No wonder they cost a lot. I love the angle you shot this at.

  15. You are right. Board games with your friends, face to face is so much more fun than a game on the computer!
