The dome
Finally, I managed a photo of the Araneta Coliseum which actually shows its dome. Previously, I've shown photos of one of its entrances and the curved footbridge which connects it to several malls in the area. Nicknamed "The Big Dome," this multipurpose stadium in Cubao, Quezon City is one of the biggest indoor stadiums in Metro Manila. Its biggest claim to fame is the 1975 Thrilla in Manila, the final boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier for the Heavyweight Boxing Championship of the World. The glass building on the left is the part of Gateway Mall which stretches across a public road.

Great shot of this famous dome. I remember how huge the Thrilla in Manila was.
The Thrilla in Manilla is indeed a world famous event, back when boxing was much more popular and was followed by more people than today.
Even I have heard of the Thrilla in Manila! Nice shot Hilda.
I was already around for Thrilla in Manila, but not a big fan of boxing... Nice dome, any reason for the Swedish colors?

I remember the "Thrilla in Manila'. It's nice to see the coliseum where it took place.
Even though I was just one year old back than, read much about that fight.

I'm afraid I've never heard of "The Thrilla in Manila" but I do think the building is an attractive anyway. ;-)

Goodness, we don't have an Ikea store here and I doubt if anyone here even knows that blue & yellow are the Swedish national colors — so the stadium being painted this way is probably just a coincidence. Or not, the owners knowing that no one would recognize where they copied the colors from.
