Camouflage

I know I've posted so many photos of the Manila Cathedral already, but it has such beautiful details I don't think I'll ever tire of it (and I hope you won't either). I especially like how the carvings are ornate but almost nothing is painted, so the interior looks deceptively simple from afar. The interior arches are just as lovely as those over its main doorway, though the designs are geometric rather than floral. I guess speakers are necessary in a church of this size else the congregation won't be able to hear the priest, but at least the church authorities had the wisdom to choose a color which blends with the stone.

  1. The arches in this image are making their own special music.

  3. The parishioners must have been able to hear the priests before the color-coordinated speakers were added. Maybe the priests in earlier times spoke with louder voices, just as orator politicians must have done.

  9. Gorgeous architecture. My only complaint is with the speakers hung on the arches. At least they are colored to match the stone ... but they still mar the appearance.

  10. Hilda, you can post as many photos of this cathedral as you like. It's magnificent from the arches, to the columns, to the stained glass. I do agree that the speakers are something of an eyesore, but sometimes we take the bad with the good.

  19. Time to travel to Europe (Spain, Portugal, U.K., etc., etc.) and just here round the corner... this summer.
You will absolutely love the architectural details of the older buildings.
Now I want to go "home". I've only been to Intramuros twice. I want to go to Vigan too.
