I heart…

THEME DAY: RED • Red packages filled with cookies on the red mahogany-stained shelves of Sugarhouse, which opened its first cake shop in Makati City in 1983. I remember the big fuss that everyone made about it because of its French Apple Pie, Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Mousse, Peach Walnut Pie and Blueberry Cheesecake—extremely rare treats in Manila back then. Competition is much tougher nowadays, but Sugarhouse is still around and doing quite well. In fact, they currently have sixteen branches all over Metro Manila, from kiosks selling only cakes, pastries and cookies to full-service restaurants with a wide menu. Cinnamon Twists or Chocolate Chip cookies anyone?

  1. I'll take anything chocolate at this point in time! Nice reds. I forgot all about theme day! But I had good reason. Grandchildren visiting! Yikes!

  3. While your post fit the red theme well, I would be a fan of any post dealing with cookies or chocolate, regardless of the theme.

  8. Please pass the milk! :-). Just tonight I baked a cherry pie, so I've already sampled a piece and haven't room for a cookie just now. I'll be back! Very fun take for this theme day!

  9. I can imagine the cookies are delicious too. I like the packaging.

I chose a picture I took 55 years ago of my Patty wearing a red dress. On April Fool's Day, April 1, 1955.

I gave her a diamond engagement ring, and today, April 1, 2010 is my entry for theme day on my Brookville Daily Photo blog.

  18. I'll have two of each, please.

Yum, chocolate and cinnamon are my 2 favorite flavors, so serotonin-triggering: almost like falling in love!

Thanks for stopping over at my site and leaving your kind comment. The RED vino was delicious, btw.

  21. Nice to know that cake is comfort food in other hemispheres too! If I ever visit the Philippines, I'll be running around saying, "I learned about that on Hilda's blog!" As a matter of fact, BECAUSE of you, I want to visit your country. You should get a National Public Relations award!!!!

  27. Sounds good but I'm not sure there is room in my daily calorie count. I say this and I'm drinking hot chocolate (smile) .. the red packaging goes will with the theme.
