Hilda properly run zoos can be an important part of protecting rare or threatened species. That said conditions need to be right.
Clearly they are not in the photographs. I was once lucky enough to see a Tiger in the wild, a magnificent beast who fortunately had never seen a bar in his life.
I would love to visit this Zoo.Wonderful critters, the first one is amazing beautiful! What a portrait! Well, I can imagine here, several stories with these adorable friends and Luna! :) Hugs Léia
Talk about the price of real estate these days :) Joking aside, zoos make me feel a bit sad because of their inherent characteristic: animals need to be caged. Despite the cramped quarters the tiger looks good so I'm hoping at least they get good care.
That's so sad. I remember going to the Los Angeles zoo when I was a kid. It made me sad because the conditions were terrible. Some zoos are much better for the animals though. I think people should have animals in a zoo or a home unless they really know how to take care of them.
It's always sad to see such majestic creatures in such poor conditions. I always feel that the animals in zoos look so depressed. I understand that many zoos do protect certain animals, but it's unfortunate to see them caged. Great photos though.
This is so... sad!!! That lion is the saddest lion I've ever seen. :( And the sorriest looking birds. I like zoos and I don't think we should shut them all down, but when I see how animals are treated, it kinda makes me think again.
Nice!!! The animals in the zoo, here, are way farther and can't see them up close unless they come up front. I love how you got close up shots on them. I've never seen a snake in cages yet, LOL! All the snakes they have here are all in those glass cases. It's cool how we went to the zoo pretty much the same time :-)
This is heartbreaking!!!Lisbon zoo is very old and I still remember the cages but a lot of work has been done according to current legislation and now it's very rewarding watching the animals living in such big green spaces. Don't ask me how they did it because Lisbon Zoo is stuck in the middle of the city with no spare room, but the thing is they did it! :-)
Humans ought to know better than to contain animals in such small places.
ReplyDeletecall it the voiceless victims of animal lookism ... kung ako si tigre magrally na ako .... Animal Rights namin .... sigh!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Hilds.
There, but for the grace of God, go I.
ReplyDeleteThat really is too bad. You can't even really see the animals with them all cooped up in the cages.
ReplyDeletePretty small enclosures for such large cats. (I don't have an opinion about the snake.)
ReplyDeleteThose habitats are far too small!

Even though it is said, that one who has a WHY to live, bears nearly every HOW, it is difficult to apply that here.
ReplyDeleteA peacefull and nice Thursday for you.

It's sad to see the animals in such small cages. It's been many years since I've seen a zoo like this.
ReplyDeleteYuck! I can't stand snakes! But you did take some interesting ZOO photos!
ReplyDeleteThis is an old approach to exhibiting wild animals, one you don't see too often anymore. Zoos have come a long way.
ReplyDeleteYou did a service in posting these photos. I hope some of your fellow citizens will be moved to improve conditions for these magnificent animals.
ReplyDeleteI know you're a nature lover Hilda. Some of this I'm sure does not make you happy.
ReplyDeletec'est assez triste a voir, aucun respect avec les animaux
ReplyDeleteSo sad and so true. That's a touching series of pictures showing the sad situation of animals in a zoo! Speaks right out of my heart.

The tiger is beautiful! But even the snake looks a bit confined. Where do they get their excercise?
ReplyDeleteHorrible is a good word to describe this.
ReplyDeleteSuch fantastic creatures in such a small space. I don't like zoos and I have never taken my kids to one. All the best. Ciao. A.

ReplyDeleteThis is kind of sad! They definitely do not look like they are happy.
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad! I hate to see such beautiful animals confined like that. I'm sure they are not happy.
ReplyDeletetoo sad. what could the zoo keepers possibly be thinking?
ReplyDeletePoor things. They should get their freedom to roam in their rightful habitat.
ReplyDeletePoor thing for sure, but imagine how we take our kids to see all those wild animal if not in the zoo?

ReplyDeleteThis is very sad... there's a cage for people to get in and spend a few minutes in Zagreb's ZOO. The perspective is amazing....
