Basketball-crazy

The 73rd season of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) games began last month. Since the Philippines is a basketball-crazy country, many of the basketball games are held in the Araneta Coliseum, to accommodate the large number of fans who watch. One of several restaurants on the periphery of the stadium is Café Bola, with its circular logo and light fixtures.

Talk about thematic: even Café Bola's food is spherical! This is their Seafood Bola with Parmesan Cream & Ham sauce.

  2. This is certainly a much nicer eating place for a sports arena than I've seen here.

  3. I wonder if they have tv sets tune in to the ballgames, like the bars and dives near sports stadium here.

    That is simply yummylooking.

  5. I remember being surprized by the basketball craziness when I went to the Philippines. I'm crazy about basketball too. However I don't go out of my way to eat basketball shaped food. :)

Btw those lights are pretty cool!

  7. It all looks so delicious! Especially love the friendly orange theme to the place. Adds a down to earth quality, as sometimes with clever design there is a coldness... but not here. Great job!:)

  8. I love basketball! Didn't know the Philipines were crazy about hoops too. It's a much more exciting game than baseball. :S

It's just like what call it here. Bola = ball.

  10. Hilda a nice theme and well captured, I really like the main photo. Sort of retro is how I would describe it.

Bet they don't sell any of our not so favourite sweets here :-)

  14. Well, you've got me running in circles! Looks like a fine place and I'll eat that stuff no matter how it's shaped.

Were you there for a basketball game? Didn't realize that sport was so popular in your country.

  19. Eki:
Yes, bola is Tagalog for ball.

    Mike:
You'd be surprised. The owner-chef is very good at updating traditional Filipino dishes. If not here, one of her other restaurants has a gourmet version of suman, a sticky rice roll. She serves it with caramel sauce and ripe mangoes, if I remember right.

    Jacob:
No, I wasn't there for a game. I'm in the minority in this case. I don't watch basketball games, live or on TV.

    VP:
    Parmesan cream sauce = love!

    Joy:
But of course! But I'm still not watching. ;)
