Back in January, I showed you Coca-Cola's fake headline news in the newspaper The Philippine Star. Last Friday, another company came out with a different kind of advertising gimmick. The newspaper was delivered to our house in an Acer envelope with a die-cut window for the masthead and headline. It constantly amazes me how much creativity—and money—companies spend just to try to make us buy their products.
On a side note, Acer's new local brand ambassador is Derek Ramsay, a half-Brit half-Filipino actor and model. Just between you and me, I think he's the hottest of all the hot local celebrities. This photo does not do him enough justice, or maybe I'm just not used to seeing him in a suit.

This post made me smile as I am also constantly amazed at the tactics company use to get us to purchase their products. It's harder to fool people like us...but I bet I've fallen for some of their tricks. I'm thinking Derek Ramsay might be able to persuade me. :)
Ah the power of advertising! All tricks of the trade are used, so I guess lots of you ladies will be buying a new computer after you have finished swooning over the guy :-)
Ms. Hilds, my lappy is Acer!
lol, ^0^ even in suit he's still quite dashing.
but i think you like him more in c.tuna's comm'l.
what an innovative way.
Who could resist a face and physique like that. I'll buy two.
Very interesting to see that companies go to various lengths to increase their sales all over the world. I thought that it was only Indians that were being entertained with the outrageous advertising gimmicks.
On to more important things... I AGREE that the photo does not do justice to Derek Ramsay. But opening the link you have provided while at work might prove very dangerous... lol. Enjoyed reading this post!
tous les moyens sont bons pour nous faire acheter, pour nous les hommes nous avons le droit a de belles filles et vous mesdames a ces beaux yeaux
haaay they should package derek with just a newspaper.. le sigh!
i think it's somehow effective as it's what you'll noticed when you get the paper. i saw it too when coke did it first.
I am sure this kind of ads are quite effective, but I just do not like them...
Okay...what are you used to seeing him in? :-)
It is amazing the money dedicated to advertising...if the drug companies put as much money into R&D as they do their TV ads, we'd probably have found a cure for cancer by now!
Oh Derek!!! I saw him on TV recently and he looked... thin. Maybe he's been eating just his tuna. :D He looked almost wiry. But he is still hawt!!! He can wear a sack and still be the hottest local celeb. Heehee!
I also wonder how well these advertising schemes work. But as long as they are using good-looking models, I don't mind!
Is Acer a big seller where you live? I see them and they seem to be lower priced but I never bought one yet.

He definitely looks better without that suit Hilda!
Well, if they wanted to catch your attention they did it successfully! :)
God bless you!

marketing via newspapers is stepping up from ye olde mere flyer inserts!
when i think of derek ramsey, i think of beaches and century tuna. haha.
My newspaper often comes in packaging similar to this ... sometimes with product samples as well.
Do you get freebies as well, as we do here? CDs, DVDs, clothes, sandals, semi precious stones, books, kitchen knives, chewing gum........ It's all a bit over the top.
