THEME DAY: GRAFFITI • The city government of Pasig spent quite a lot of resources prettifying the area under the elevated portion of Meralco Avenue for pedestrians. As usual, someone couldn't resist defacing the painted supporting pillar. This is the kind of graffiti that I detest. People who do this always remind me of dogs marking their territory, but at least dogs protect the territory they've marked. I don't think these vandals do.

Agree with you about the difficulties to "measure time and life" through this mean - same over here, as even walls of houses are used.

So sad that the metropolis are inhabited by some people without urbanity sorry for the word but it looks like it. Naiinis ako kapag nakakita ng ganyan...tingnan ko mamaya.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a graffiti fan either for the most part. When I see it on churches or historic buildings it really gets me mad. I don't think I've seen any in Newtown thankfully. However I've seen some artistic graffiti that looks pretty nice in big cities around the world.

I like graffiti when they're on an applicable place - a grey or dark wall. But I have to agree with James. Vandalism is not OK!

ReplyDeleteWe get a lot of this tagging in Chicago, too. The city's Streets and Sanitation department do a pretty good job of getting it off public buildings and I think there may be a fine structure if a business doesn't get the graffiti removed.
They should try it at their bedrooms or something...

It is natural for dogs to pee like they do. But this is not a dog but someone had this one as a baby and gave up on it before properly educating it. I call it, it, because it is stupid. I do like what your city has done. Some senior citizen should volunteer to go round with a bucket of matching paint and paint the stuff out.
ReplyDeleteGraffiti is a problem over here as well. I would say that this scene is relatively graffiti-free compared to some that I've seen. But I agree that it is a shame some people have so little regard for their surroundings and for others.
ReplyDeleteI agree. I am not a fan of graffiti. The city of Salem does a very good job of washing or painting over the vandalism quickly. Have a great weekend.

ReplyDeleteHi Hilda, this is pangit, talaga! I see the debate raging about whether graffiti is okay or not, and I'd like to re-frame the question: was it invited or not? When public or private property is defaced, no matter how well done, it's a definite no-no to me. Now wall art, invited, even paid for, on the other hand... YES!
