La Madre Filipina is a monument dedicated to the Filipino mother at the Rizal Park. The plaque simply says that it was created by Martinez and retouched by F. Caedo, neither of whom I can find any information about.
Ms Hilda, Originally there were 4 La Madre Filipina depicting different sacrifices of a Filipina mother for her husband, son, daughter, and family, they were originally mounted on a pedestal at the both end of the Old Jones Bridge, when the jones bridge completely collapsed because of the bombing of Manila, they were dismantled and were excluded in the restoration of the bridge, you can find the other 2 statues at the Court of Appeals building in the Supreme Complex, the former University of Manila Library, the other one was missing..according to some articles I read, they were commissioned by the German Government in the 30's for the Philippine Commonwealth but I am not sure about that.

This is a very interesting monument. The figures do seem to depict joys and sorrow.
It's a fantastic monument with lots of emotion! I wish we had more sculptures around my city!
That is a beautiful monument. Incredible that the maker isn't more well known. Great picture!
I'd love to learn more about this interesting statue! Fabulous shot, Hilda :-D
Happy weekend!

Hello Hilda,
Thank you for taking the time of visiting my blog and for your lovely comment.
I really appreciate!
The sadness and resignation of this Mother is very well rendered by the sculptor...
