The 10th century Banteay Srei, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva, is distinctive among Angkor's many temples because of the miniature scale of its buildings. 
It was constructed using a hard red sandstone which can be carved like wood. Despite being more than a thousand years old, the temple retains much of its intricate decorative carvings.

I wonder why these were constructed in miniature? Perhaps lack of materials? They are gorgeous and the carvings are delightful. Hard to grasp that they are that old.
