All-malt

San Miguel Premium All-malt Beer San Miguel Beer is probably the best known beer produced in the Philippines. It is also the most popular locally, cornering a whopping 95% share of the market. San Miguel comes in eight varieties. Cerveza Negra is still my favorite, but the Premium All-Malt is a close second.

Can anyone explain to me why so many beers are named after Saints?

I also find it curious and have asked your question myself.
No answer, but I keep on photographing examples. At our recent family reunion in Israel there on the table was a bottle of imported from Munich "Franziskaner Weissbier." With a picture of a friar.
In a remote corner of the Alps I found a beer named for the local saint. My nun friend companion on that hike agreed to buying two bottles in order to toast the saint. :)

Lovely shot!
Ha! Good question, I bet we just love to drink Saints ;)

I think they sell this here, but I've never tried it. I have no idea about the saints except just about everything gets named after one saint or another. Except me. But then I'm not very saintly. :)

my guess is that just like wine it was the priests/friars who first brewed beer in the abbey.

Where else did I have San Miguel beer?! Spain? South America? Can't remember.

Because if you drink enough, you might have a religious experience? I always enjoy visiting your blog and learning more about where you live!

Hey Hilda, just checking in on you. Are you and your family okay? The photos of the typhoon devastation are horrendous. Thankfully my family was spared, but so many people there have not been so lucky. Please post and let your CDP friends know that you are okay! Hugs!

Thank you so much for your concern! None of our immediate family are located in the affected areas, and even our extended family is fine. But the disaster is just so overwhelming. My husband and I feel so helpless, but we are trying to help in every little way we can.

Hilda, thank you for the update. I am so relieved to hear that you and your loved ones are okay. The photos and videos I'm seeing on the news are tearing me apart. I am doing what I can to help as well, and urging my friends to contribute as well. My heart goes out to each and every person who has been adversely affected by this horrible event. Praying for peace for all.
