The dining, shopping and entertainment promenade of
Eastwood City frequently has bands performing in one of several plazas. The Eastwood Central Plaza is the biggest of them, with the stage, café tables and chairs under a huge tent. Many of the concerts held here are multi-band events, and this is where my husband and I discovered some great local jazz groups several years ago. The last time we were in Eastwood, there was a rock concert titled 'Boombox Live' and it was colorful, foggy and loud! Maybe a decade ago, we would have stayed and screamed along with the young ones but… We just took a peek then skedaddled out of there. I also had to do a little web search to find out if Boombox was the name of the event or that of a band. It was the event—the concert featured a dozen Filipino rock (Pinoy rock) bands. Boombox Live 2008 was in early October, hence the 'living sculpture' in the scarecrow costume.

ReplyDeleteRe: Opera, I watch shows during the Filmfest, if not in small theaters lang, the cost in the State Oper is too much for my budget including the kids...though I saw one with a reasonable price yesterday, maybe soon ;-)
I went to too many concerts when I was still young that by the age of 25, I had outgrown noisy events like this. Although it's said you're never too old for anything.. but in this case? I must be :D

ReplyDeleteAbout the Aboriginal poles sculpture: Totem poles as a permanent display are not associated with ABoriginal culture. However, I understand some groups carve and decorate such poles as part of funeral rituals and they are then left to weather and rot (hence there not being many in existence)

grassroots is really the way to go if ur going to make a difference! i like that more ppl are getting involved in their respective communities. Nice post and awesome message!

ReplyDeleteThere's no entrance fee and since it's in an open area, anyone can watch and listen. But if you want to sit at one of the tables, you have to order food or drinks. The restaurants around the plaza field waiters to take and deliver orders inside the tent.
i noticed that you're always in libis. you might be staying in one of those condominiums.
