It's cool, at least

Yesterday, I showed you the the waiting area of the arrivals section of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, a photo which I took from the parking lot. This is what you get when you pay the 30 pesos needed to get inside that building. In the upper floor, there's a Jollibee (a Filipino fastfood chain) and a Kopi Roti (a Singaporean coffee franchise), and toilets down that narrow corridor. You only get cold hard metal seats, but at least the place is airconditioned—a blessing in Manila's humid climate. The lower floor isn't airconditioned though—so your arriving passenger can hear you yelling and see you waving like mad when you catch sight of him/her. This is where I took the photo from the other day, with the lens right up the glass so I wouldn't get any reflections. And just for the record, I didn't have to yell and only had to wave once for my sister to see me. There are advantages to being tall.

You have to pay to get in the terminal? Do people just go there to hang out?

Interesting photos,

seems like a rather small waiting area, but i'm sure the a/c is much appreciated =)

I guess they use the entrance fees to pay for the air condioning. ;-)

This is just one end of the building — there are many more seats behind me in this photo. :)

I'm fascinated by your mention of the Filipino fast food chain as I have no idea what that would be like. And I then realised that I don't know anything at all about Filipino food.

Have you any posts on it that you could direct me to? And do photograph the fast food chain when next you pass one!

(PS Ruby blushes, having publicly revealed she is more than a little bit interested in food!)

Interesting to pay to go into the terminal. I would think the businesses would object. Otherwise, I suppose it would cut down on panhandling.

Well they might not be very comfortable seats but it looks like at least one person has managed to fall asleep on them anyway! I hope he wasn't waiting too long!

Love your Manila, Hilda. Love Filipino food. Once a friend prepared for me some wrappers with water chestnuts, meat and chiles (I think). They were delicious. Don't remember the name though. Ciao. Antonella (landed here through Ruby's blog!)

Wow, another money-making scheme. But I guess if they funnel it back to maintaining/improving the airport, then that's alright. I love the airport in Manila. Nothing like it in the world. Only in Manila will you have the entire community sending you off, and the entire country welcoming you home. And I can't wait to go home in December!

Airports in tropical climates have such a different feel to those in the northern hemisphere. There's something relaxed about them, no matter what. I love them.

I too was amazed to hear that you have to pay 30 pesos to get in.

Rejoicing today over Barack Obama's election. A worldwide joy to share!

I allways like your descriptions to go with the photos.

You really made me laugh with your last comment! :-) If I was him the 1st thing I would do was to get rid of that bimbo wife! Lol!
