I've always associated this type of drawing and lettering with, well, punks. You know: non-conformist, rebellious, slightly violent teenagers. In fact, it's the type of drawing that I expect to see as graffiti in the seedier parts of the metro. What I don't expect it to be is a promotion for literacy.
Bookay-ukay is the used-books store near our house. Yay for this new breed of punks!

Hey! The sign just might convince a few punks that reading can be cool. ;-)
Maybe they sell used graffiti??
That's very interesting and punk or no punk, I like the lettering.
I associate that sort of lettering with the military. Times change.
I'm with "your eg tour guide" on this one =)
As a retired librarian, I say--anything that will get kids to read!!!!
le punk n'est donc pas mort ;o)) j'aime bien ce type de graphisme.
the punk therefore did not die ;o)) I like well this type of style of drawing.
I like this one a lot--very smart marketing!
Greetings from Juneau (Alaska) Daily Photo!
I agree it's definitely odd, but I do hope it works and reaches those who have difficulty reading.
I didn't learn to read until I was in 7th grade (12), struggled through my youth to become a better reader, and went on to be a teacher. Possibilities are endless if we are willing to persevere.
Thanks for commenting on Marcel's blog "Sitka Daily Photo." I, too, hope he keeps it active and updates us once in a while.
Have a great day!
Great shot! I wonder who thought that one up...some young punk?
very very cool name for a bookshop.
If they read enough, they won't be punks anymore. :)
I suppose the idea is to appeal to teenagers, and get them interested in reading and books. Its a striking advert.
a nice example of an adoption of a peripheral cultural symbol by the main stream ... it's a widespread symptom in a globalized world, Hilda.
I like the keen observation of of cultural symbols you show in this photo.
It's like a military code...
Surprizing and cute...
cool surprize.
Great find. It attracts its audience with its graphics and the surprises with its message. Clever!
Thanks for stopping by at mine.
Okay bookay-ukay!
Hi Hilda, I've left you an award on my blog. Come and collect it! Ciao. Antonella
i'd love one of these bookstores near my place too!
That is good news! You're lucky to have a different kind of bookshop near where you live.
