They say that necessity is the mother of invention. I'd like to propose another, which I think is more appropriate to this day and age: the lack of financial resources. I spotted this wheelchair at the
University of the Philippines Health Service. A monoblock plastic chair with sawed-off legs attached to a custom metal frame and what looks to be bicycle wheels. Cool, isn't it? And if you're wondering about the wooden furniture, join the club. The waiting areas are full of them—chairs, benches, tables and this screen being used to cover the circuit breaker panels.

Very resourceful!
ReplyDeleteI think you have the oddest odd shot today just for the sheer inevtveness of whoever designed and engineered this. Strange but useful.
ReplyDeleteje trouve ce fauteuil très original, et puis il va bien avec le meuble.
ReplyDeleteI find this very original armchair, and then it goes well with the piece of furniture
I certainly think this qualifies for an odd shot! These three things don't really belong together, but somehow they fit. I love the ingenuity of the wheelchair. My engineer husband will appreciate that!
ReplyDeleteFantastic! it surely beats the NHS furniture. At least people have something to look at while they're waiting...Have a nice week. Ciao. Antonella
ReplyDeleteThat really is an odd shot! I can safely say I've never seen a wheel chair made from a plastic garden chair before!
ReplyDeleteI want a same armchair with a book
ReplyDeleteClever! Reminds me of the aXiom, "necessity is the mother of invention."
ReplyDeleteMaybe the other seats weren't heavy people proof :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo.

Did my last comment disappear into the ether, or just into your moderation queue? I clicked so quickly I didn't see what happened!
ReplyDeleteJust in case it disappeared - the wheelchair made me laugh! What a great picture :)
Quite a piece of engineering!
ReplyDeleteThat wheelchair is a very cool bit of improvisation!
ReplyDeleteVery creative! Your post reminded me of a picture I took and posted of a truck passing us on the highway - they had a plywood door painted to match the truck...unfortunately, the area where this truck was seen and from, it was more...hmmm, lifestyle? rather than the current economic affairs. But it was still quite resourcefull.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my site!
Very inventive indeed though I bet the wheelchair isn't too comfortable. Hopefully it's intended for short term use.
ReplyDeleteThose screens would cost a fortune here..
It's nice to see such wooden furniture at a hospital. The wheelchair is absolutely funny!
ReplyDeleteMarley:
ReplyDeleteThis was the first (and only) time I've seen one too. Which is why I just had to take a picture!

Disappeared into the ether. I don't have comment moderation on.
Angela:
I think it's only for the clinic's use and since the place is small, no one has to use it for extended periods. Lovers of screens — new, antique, wood, iron, bamboo, any material you can think of — would love shopping in Manila!
Whatever works, right?! A great invention...
ReplyDeletewhether it's wood, steel, people are artistic that they can make it beautiful.
ReplyDeleteCool Odd shot. Thanks for commenting on mine. Sorry it has taken me so long to reply back.
