Vroom!

I mentioned on Monday that after the mass, procession, groundbreaking and breakfast in Intramuros, the motorcade started and that the first stop was a mall along Padre Faura Street in Ermita, Manila which used to be the location of the Ateneo de Manila from the 1930s. The highlight of the motorcade were these beauties, parked in front of the Manila Cathedral before everything started. Let's get one thing straight first: I don't know anything about cars, so please don't ask me anything about them. I had to take photos of their logos just to identify them correctly for this post. Neither do I know if they are the correct cars for the era. All I know for sure is, they got everybody ogling them in Intramuros and people clapped when they arrived in Padre Faura.

    I used to have a 1970 Mercedes 280 SE just like in your photo, except it was 4 doors (and blue). I bought it in 1978 from the estate of a little old lady who died and who drove it only 41,000 miles (65,000 km) in 18 years.

    I drove it for 8 years, doubled the mileage, and sold it for more than I paid for it. (But I also had various repairs that cost as much as I paid for it).

    I remember as a kid we used to play with abandoned Mercedes like the bid white one. It was standing on bricks - the tires were missing and a street cat had her kittens in the engine compartment :) Thank you for bringing memories! Beautiful cars!

    Thanks for the great pictures of the cars. I can understand why they created a sensation. My first 'new' car was a Chevrolet Camaro, although it wasn't as fancy as the one you pictured.

    I like the last picture which is of a Mustang that looks almost brand new.

    Some of these old cars are really expensive. Your photos of them reveal their finer lines and great colors.

    Thanks for swinging by Hilda. Nice display of street rods, especially that Camaro. Must be tough to keep those going over there, spare parts and all. One of my buddies has one, an evil sounding machine. Spits out it's exhaust like an angry daemon.

    I just spent most of the day at the MSRA. What a display. Nearly 12,000 street rods. I'll be posting the few photos I got (the choice was overwhelming) over the next few weeks.

    «Louis» doesn't exactly remember the designation of the first MG - it is a 'T' series, probably a 'T-G,' the last of the 'T' series, if memory serves correctly. The red one is an MG-A, the replacement for the 'T' series.

    Check out that Chevrolet Camaro SS 350! Its to hot for a date with a beautiful girl right? If I would be given a chance to have something like that I wouldn't trade it to anything even with bugati. gosh. its very rare.
