Raise the red lantern

I really like these bright red lanterns at Hap Chan (Chinese for 'gathering place'), a Chinese restaurant that has several outlets in Metro Manila and beyond. I used the 'accent color' feature of my camera—it lets you choose one color to focus on and bleaches the rest of the scene into monochrome. While shooting, not processing after the fact. Pretty smart for such a little thing. I wonder if its sensitivity can be adjusted…

Hilda, I really like this shot. The red is so vibrant against the black and white. Yes, a pretty smart camera indeed.

These red lanterns would be recognized as fitting decor for a Chinese restaurant anywhere in the world. My wife (Julie of Scottsdale Daily Photo) and I have Chinese art and antiques in the family room of our Scottsdale house and we recently repainted the room in a Chinese red, although not as vibrant as these lanterns.

I'm not a big fan of such lanterns in a home, but I do love your photo! The contrast of the red and grey is wonderful!

It's so beautiful!
I think there are others little lamps around it to help about spreading the lights!

Red lanterns seem to be the symbol for chinese restaurants everywhere. Do you know why?

Rob (and Mandy):
They seem to be the symbol for Chinese anything. The Chinese themselves use red lanterns a lot, so I guess it was just natural.

Really? There is a button like that?!

Hilda that is a really neat feature. And the results it produces are brilliant!

This is why I love colour red so much because it stands out in the crowd.
