The palace of the governor

The Palacio del Gobernador in Intramuros is a 1978 reconstruction of the 17th century Spanish Governor-General's residence and office. The original building collapsed in the devastating June 3, 1863 Manila earthquake and was abandoned when the Governor-General moved to Malacañang Palace. Currently, the Palacio del Gobernador houses some government offices and is the home of the Intramuros Administration.

There's something about this building that screams "bureaucracy"! Maybe it's all the small windows - probably too small for people escape through! ;-)

One wonders, though, why so many small windows. Why not fewer, larger windows? I guess if it's a reconstruction it must be faithful to the original.

Wowza! That is a mighty big building! Our old government buildings look something like this too. Small windows and indestructable concrete walls :)

Looks more like a hotel that a palace! They surely didn't copy the design of the Versailles palace!

What a massive building. I agree with Jacob. This looks like a place where you go to work and they lock you in.

When I look at this I imagine hundreds of people bent over their desks inside there.

It looks huge! I might get quite lost in there.

A palace needs bigger windows. :)

Hilda, is this a modern interpretation of the 17th century design? It looks too modern to be a 17th century design - unless the building in back is a modern building both in design and age, while the building in the foreground is the reproduction.
