Here is another view of the Berkeley Residences from the other day, but from the bottom of the green footbridge which leads to Miriam College. Because Halcyon asked whether it was affordable housing, here's a little more information about it. If you take a look at its floor plans, you will notice that the units are tiny, but these are actually the standard among most condominium buildings in Manila nowadays. Sulit.com.ph lists their cost from 1.8 to 4.3 million pesos (40,500 to 96,700 in U.S. dollars) depending on whether they have one or two bedrooms and also if they are on the pool level or not. Is Berkeley affordable? For the majority of Filipinos, no it's not. But compared to other condominium buildings, and especially houses, in the metro, yes it is.
This very large structure. Of course, the cost is too great. I think that is important is that it is robust.
ReplyDeleteI wonder what the occupancy rate is! A lot of the expensive condo's have more vacancies here these days. But Berkeley Residences looks like a really great place to live. Especially with the pool :D
ReplyDeleteThe cost of a unit in this condominium makes me glad I live in a rural area. We may not have all the modern conveniences, but housing is much more affordable than in the large cities.
ReplyDeleteSo many families can live in that one building!
ReplyDeleteHilda, I found some minutes in between caring for my visiting daughter and baby to see all your posts that I had missed. So many different and interesting things.
Have a good and safe monsoon season.
Hilda! This is a very stunning Photo! I love the way you composed the Whole building in your Photo! Great Job!
ReplyDeleteSoooo happy to be back Blogging and Back here at your Blog! Was so busy with school with all these Midterm Exams. I've got tons of papers to check but so far, I'm having the Time of my life being a Teacher :)
Your Friend,

Wouldn't like to live in a thing like this
ReplyDeleteBerkeley Residences is a beautiful as well as the green bridge
ReplyDeleteThe views must be amazing if you lived towards the top. Nice photo!
ReplyDeleteThe building is in its own way fascinating, but living there is another thing...
ReplyDeleteI must admit I agree with Rob & Mandy... It doesn't look like a very attractive place to live in, specially as you say that the apartments are so tiny. The upper ones must provide a nice view, though.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you!
Cezar
I wouldn't want to live in something like this. Is the figure you gave for rent or purchase price? If purchase price, then that's very cheap compared to prices in Australia.
ReplyDeleteBy the standards of most American cities, that would be quite affordable. But I much prefer a semi-rural setting, as I live just outside a city on a couple of acres.
ReplyDeleteLiving in a building has its pros and cons, but I could not do it again. I need to have a lawn :)
ReplyDeleteMany thanks for visiting Norwich Daily Photo and leaving your comment. Come visit again tomorrow!
«Louis» wonders why they named it "Berkeley" - that name conjures up images of the notoriously politically left wing city in the San Francisco Bay Area and of the University of California - Berkeley.
ReplyDeletehee hee...
The word verification is "pence"... Evidently, it costs MANY pence to live in the Berkeley...
I'm a Taurus and would not enjoy living is such a building - at any cost.
