For ten months back in 2008, Filipino artist
Impy Pilapil's large, outdoor sculptures for the exhibit titled "
Interactive: The 12 Senses" were on display in the gardens of the
Ateneo de Manila University. Many of us were very sad when they were dismantled because they added such bright spots of color to the campus. Happily however, two pieces were retained. The bamboo
Chime Halo was reinstalled when the new
Rizal Library was finished last year and this one, Surge, was never removed. One of the
Ateneo Art Gallery curators told me that it weighs a ton, which is probably why the artist decided to keep it in the university.
I'm glad. I think it looks great in the rock garden beside the Manuel V. Pangilinan Center for Student Leadership along
my favorite brick path.
Did you see me reflected on the glass window of the first photo? :)
See what's reflecting what at James' Weekend Reflections.

Its a wonderful piece of art work and it looks lovely in this rest spot, Hilda.
Have a delightful weekend ;)
How interesting that the artist decided to colour it pink. I wonder what the significance to that was/is.
Nice work of art. Love the color.
Great shots Hilda.
Happy weekend reflections.
~~~I'm waving to your reflection~~~
I think sculptures like this are great for schools or office complexes etc. It's a shame that it was only temporary.
It does look great in the rock garden indeed!
The art we have here at pubic places is like this. Sheets of stainless steel cut to resemble people or things. Your pieces are in color and that is nicer.
It looks light and airy and is quite whimsical! Wonderful sculpture!
Guess that i would walk through it every morning. Nice indeed. Please have a good Sunday you all.
I really like this sculpture, and I agree that the rock garden is a perfect location for it. I'm glad it has remained there.
