1879

Standing on the ground beside the side entrance of the Malate Church was this old bell. It is dedicated to Our Lady of the Remedies and was made by the foundry of Hilario Sunico in January 30 (or 10—I'm not quite sure), 1879. I can't find anything about Fundicion de Hilario Sunico except that they made bells for other churches and cathedrals in the Philippines around this time. I hope this bell gets restored to its tower soon or, at the very least, stored or displayed properly. With so much of the City of Manila's heritage destroyed during WWII, this is no way to treat a historical treasure.

I agree, it should be restored and get rinning again, but not as a warning but rings of joy.

The bell is a wonderful piece of history and should be displayed and cared for as a piece of artwork. Nice shot.

Strange that it is just sitting there. I'm glad you spied it. Maybe something will get done now.

It should be put back in the tower again, because bells should ring. At least it wasn't melted and converted into guns, like some other bells during wars.

it's a pity how we treat our historical artifacts. it says a lot about how we look at ourselves as a nation. :-(

So sad that it's just sitting there like that! I hope someone will restore it. It's really beautiful!

Nice to get a look at it while it's down though. It's amazing the work that has gone into it, even though bells aren't exactly on public view - not usually, at least.
