Against all odds

When land is expensive, as it can be in many parts of Metro Manila, people buy small cuts and use the entire space for the house and garage, leaving nothing for a garden. The only soil this house had left was in a built-in planter in front of the wall that separates it from its neighbor. And from that cramped space, this bougainvillea was cascading over both driveways.

Despite confined to such a small space the flowers are so beautiful, you took a great picture!
It's impressive!

Cramped but treasured, I'm sure. I was delighted to find these thriving in Sicily.

There may not be much space, but this is beautiful. I think it shows how much people desire to have the beauty of nature even in the midst of a crowded city.

Lovely how nature will find a way.

I love bougainvillea and if this is the only flowering plant they could manage I think it's a great choice.

One does what one must do; or can do. A great use of what little space there is! Bougainvillea is very pretty - we had some in the back yard...but it froze every winter and then looked terrible and the spikes made them hard to deal with so we dug 'em out and planted other, less beautiful, but more user-friendly plants.

That's nice pink bougainvillea. Is it equally divided between the 2 driveways? ;)

I love bougainvillea in different colors. It can sustain and grow even here in Al Ain, even in steamy hot weather during summer.

Hi Hilda, thanks for the welcome back :-)

Lovely flowers - bougainillea is so pretty, but doesn't grow at all well in the UK, shame!

The colorful blossoms make this an inviting home. I'm glad they've made an attempt to keep some green space, no matter how little that space may be.
