Green means yes

I feel like such a hick for posting this because I'm sure they're common in more developed countries, but I just had to because I was actually delighted when I realized what they were. I noticed them on the ceiling of the parking building when we last went to an SM Supermall, and it took me several seconds before I understood what they were for. A green light means that the parking space is free and a red light means that a car's parked there. Now, drivers don't have to crawl through all the lanes looking for a free slot; just one look at the lights and they'll know whether they can park on that level or move on to the next. Isn't that so clever? I doubt if they'll help ease the awful traffic around Manila's humongous malls during weekends though.

erm, it does help, a lot actually, esp. for a newbie driver like me.

Oh so that's what are they for? I noticed them, but we seldom park in the SM parking, Dawn and I noticed it when we went to clinica manila using the park entrance, and Dawn played with it, it's green when she stand underneath and red and when not. I played with it also hahahaha.

Great idea, new to me.

Could have used those lights when my daughter came to visit. We made the mistake of driving to the mall in her rented car just before the Rosh Hashana holiday. We drove around and around on all the parking floors and did not find a single free space.

Haha I felt like a hick too when I posted this on my blog some time ago. I saw this in SM too and I had the same reaction. It's sooo clever! Makes parking more efficient. I hope other malls follow suit.
