They say that necessity is the mother of invention. I'd like to propose another, which I think is more appropriate to this day and age: the lack of financial resources. I spotted this wheelchair at the University of the Philippines Health Service. A monoblock plastic chair with sawed-off legs attached to a custom metal frame and what looks to be bicycle wheels. Cool, isn't it? And if you're wondering about the wooden furniture, join the club. The waiting areas are full of them—chairs, benches, tables and this screen being used to cover the circuit breaker panels.

I think you have the oddest odd shot today just for the sheer inevtveness of whoever designed and engineered this. Strange but useful.

I certainly think this qualifies for an odd shot! These three things don't really belong together, but somehow they fit. I love the ingenuity of the wheelchair. My engineer husband will appreciate that!

That wheelchair is a very cool bit of improvisation!
Very creative! Your post reminded me of a picture I took and posted of a truck passing us on the highway - they had a plywood door painted to match the truck...unfortunately, the area where this truck was seen and from, it was more...hmmm, lifestyle? rather than the current economic affairs. But it was still quite resourcefull.

Very inventive indeed though I bet the wheelchair isn't too comfortable. Hopefully it's intended for short term use.

I think it's only for the clinic's use and since the place is small, no one has to use it for extended periods. Lovers of screens — new, antique, wood, iron, bamboo, any material you can think of — would love shopping in Manila!
