We live in a neighborhood which I would describe as middle to upper-middle class. Most of the residents are professionals—teachers, nurses, doctors, dentists—corporate employees or entrepreneurs. The average size of house lots is 300–400 sqm, and townhouses and duplexes are on 150–200 sqm lots. And there are hardly any vacant lots left. Yet the pet supply store three blocks away from our home has more chicken feed varieties than dog or cat food. And the young man who tends the store says that they sell more chicken feed than dog food. What I want to know is, where are all those chickens and who takes care of them?

Ah, that's a curious thing, Hilda. Could it be that the chicken feed is also used to feed caged birds?
How odd! Do you hear roosters crowing in the morning? When I was in college a neighbor kept two chickens on her balcony. Needless to say I didn't need an alarm to make it to my morning classes...
I think, most of farm houses are located in the villages. In this case, I'm a bit lucky. My house is surrounded by villages and chickens are everywhere!
Somewhere nearby lurks a secret society of chickens.
In the UK at the moment urban chicken keeping is on the rise. I did read a statistic recently about the increase but I can't remember it now! I used to have chickens but the fox got them :(
I'd like some more but now I live in a flat so its not really practical!
curious.
"Louis" is wondering where his next meal is...
He's a bit miffed that the chickens have the priority here.
(Editor to "Louis:" Get over yourself!
"Louis" to Editor: I hope the close the Starbucks you stop at each morning. I'd like to see you suffer a little caffeine deprivation...
Editor to "Louis:" NO! NOT THAT!)
That is wild. To quote a national US tabloid, inquiring minds want to know! Really, that is strange.
Rooftops? Basements? Feeding the chickens to the dogs? Maybe it cooks up really nicely, and you're the last to know? ;^)
A lot of well to do people are into cockfights. Hmmn...
it is strange. we have chickens in the neighborhood but there isn't a chicken feed for sale nearby. oh, my neighbor just usually asks for leftover rice, bread and stuff to feed his birds.
