In search of the perfect ramen

ramen Manila has had a love affair with ramen since last year, with lots of new restaurants claiming to serve the perfect bowl popping up. My husband and I rarely follow food trends because we find it silly to waste time waiting in long queues (and also because foods that trend are usually not very healthy), but we do enjoy a good bowl of ramen every now and then. Since ramen with chasyu (grilled pork) and tamago (egg) looks similar no matter the flavor, this will be the first and probably the last photo of ramen I will post here. This particular bowl is from Nomama Artisanal Ramen, of which we'd heard quite a lot about. I found it disappointing—the broth was overpowering and the pork wasn't very tender. Sorry, Nomama, but I think that Ramen Bar's is much, much better.

It looks good even if the flavor is less than expected.

Ah Ramen, the staple of every college student I've ever known (including myself). You could always rely on Ramen to get you through finals week or when you were two days away from pay day. I guess that's why it's so surprising there are whole restaurants dedicated to this uber simple food. Don't get me wrong, guess what was one of the first things I made when we arrived? Ramen! Husband was sick with some stomach thing so I just made some ramen with a little chicken broth (always better to keep it simple with a sour tummy). But I have to say, I think that's the first time we've had Ramen in years. No complaints though - there's a reason it's popular :)

There's no ramen trend here (yet, anyway), but I always keep packets of the instant kind on hand. I usually jazz it up with some vegetables, rice and water chestnuts. Hey, maybe I should open a ramen restaurant ;^)

I think I'm missing something as I can not recall ever eating ramen. But with you ravin' about ramen I guess I'll have to give it a try!

I love Ramen, but it is usually just the noodles. I have a friend who used to order Ramen from Japan (when we lived in Spain). She "really" liked it!
