The Door by Conrado Mercado, aluminum and brass relief, 152 x 203 cm, 1973. Even back in my college days, this was one of my favorite social realist pieces from the Ateneo Art Gallery. Very powerful. And painful.
Great artwork, and yes, sad too. Interesting that they are behind bars in a door, they are not only behind bars, they are also behind doors they can't open.

This is different!
This really needs to be enlarged to be appreciated. It is so sad and so very beautiful.
I have this uneasy feeling when I look at the bars and see the sadness in their faces. A thought provoking picture.
Powerful, indeed, Hilda.
Those doors are magnificent! What a great work of art.
I'm wondering who they were...
God bless you!
