One-stop wedding shop

The Wedding Lounge (see previous post) is a boutique which gathers all the services one needs for a wedding—or any large party, for that matter. Invitations, gowns, jewelry, cakes, flowers, photographers, videographers, makeup, chocolates… about the only thing you need to provide yourself is a bride or a groom.

CITY DAILY PHOTO THEME DAY: STREET LAMPS • The street lamp in front of The Wedding Lounge is probably part of the design of the RFM Corporate Center building, where it is located. It seems too low and too small—more decorative than utilitarian—to have been placed there by the city of Mandaluyong. Unless that little lamp is fitted with a very strong light bulb.

Bump

 
During weekends, all the roads which lead to SM Megamall, which has three other malls nearby (Shangri-la Plaza, St. Francis Square and Robinson's Galleria), have bumper to bumper traffic. In Manila, the phrase is almost literal because only a foot or two separate cars from each other.

Christmas treats

For many years now, my husband and I have made it our custom to go shopping for clothes and shoes for ourselves between Christmas and New Year, when almost everything is on sale. Of course, the Christmas decorations in the malls and shops are still up, and will only be removed after the Feast of the Epiphany, when the Roman Catholic Christmas season ends. This sweetly delicious scene is at the Shangri-La Plaza mall.

At the party celebrating the silver anniversary of Ateneo de Manila College Class of 1986, professional photographer David Fabros—a member of the class—took portraits of lucky early blackbirds gratis.

Interesting roof lines

I wish I could tell you what these four building in the Ortigas Center are, but I can only identify the two in the middle. The one with the pointy roof is Richmonde Hotel. The ziggurat overhung with plants is one of my two favorite buildings in the area, the headquarters of San Miguel Corporation. Built in 1976, it was designed by the brothers Manuel, Jose and Francisco "Bobby" Mañosa. San Miguel is one of the largest food, beverage and packing companies in the Philippines but is probably best known for its beer.

Patio on a ledge

When Shangri-La Plaza mall in Ortigas Center set up "The Ledge," a row of restaurants on its 6th level, they had to provide a place for people to smoke after their meal (with or without their Starbucks coffee). This outdoor ledge was bare concrete when it was first made available to customers, but it looks quite nice now with its painted floor and potted plants. Just don't go out there at noon in the middle of summer or in strong rains.
