A puff of wind
THEME DAY: BRIGHT COLORS • The outdoor Sunset Bar of Sofitel Manila has a small platform for performances and cultural presentations. The row of satin banners which serves as its backdrop is reminiscent of the colorful sail of the traditional Mindanao Muslim boat called the vinta. Quite appropriate since the hotel is right beside Manila Bay.

Hide-and-seek
I have to confess that I have a thing for bathrooms and powder rooms (which we call the comfort room or CR for short). I dream of the day when we can have all of ours renovated to look like those featured in Good Housekeeping, but until then, I love peeking into those in hotels, restaurants and posh homes, even if I don't need to use them, just to see how they're decorated. This is the powder room at Sofitel Manila's 7Pecados by the Bay. Both the attendant and I hid behind walls while I was taking this photo—a fat lot of good that did us.

Sweet treats
Today, I decided to share with you a couple of the pastries that we brought home from Sofitel Manila's Galette Patisserie & Chocolaterie: an exotic fruit tart with berries, grapes, pineapple, mango and dragon fruit…
and a strawberry and chocolate mousse with white and dark chocolate leaves (which I think look like lopsided bunny ears)…
just because today's my birthday. :)

Leisurely breakfast
I've already shown you the striking spiral sculpture and staircase of Sofitel Manila's Spiral restaurant. We are looking inside from its outdoor dining deck, which is perfect for an early morning breakfast when it's not the rainy season. The sound of falling water from this ornamental reflecting pool and from the waterfall of the lagoon-shaped swimming pool is very soothing.

Beat the heat
The waterfall feature of Sofitel Manila's lagoon-shaped swimming pool. Exceptionally tempting right now since the Philippines is in the middle of summer, which usually begins in March and ends in May.
Natural or man-made, take a refreshing dip in Watery Wednesday.

Pampered
When I posted photos of the lovely suite that we stayed in at the Sofitel Manila over the Valentine weekend, I mentioned that the rooms were just the start of a fantasy. The pampering continued with an evening appointment at the hotel's luxurious Le Spa. This photo of the spa's lobby was taken from the reception desk, looking out towards the corridor.
We were a few minutes early for our appointment, so my husband and I were led to the wonderfully scented and relaxing waiting room…
where we were served sweet fruit tea in a black iron pot, with warm moist towels to wipe our hands.
When our spa room was ready, we were led up a stairway. You may have noticed by now that I have a fascination with lighting fixtures, and I just loved the pattern created by the bamboo shades on the landing.
The stairs led to a smaller lobby on the second floor, where all the spa rooms are located. You can see the open doorway of one on the right.
The dimly lit couple's room has a large bath strewn with rose petals overlooking the hotel's gardens and lagoon-shaped pool.
The pressure used by my masseuse was just right for me, but my husband says that he would have preferred a heavier and more vigorous treatment.

Living the luxe life
My husband and I had the wonderful opportunity of staying at the Opera Suite of Sofitel Manila over the Valentine and Lunar New Year weekend. The Opera Suite is the hotel's top, single-bedroom suite and 'luxurious' is the only word that I can think of to describe it. And this beautiful suite is only just the beginning of what proved to be a fantasy weekend.
A foyer with a mirrored wall welcomes guests as they enter the suite. Off to one side is a powder room, whose open doorway is reflected in the mirror.
The foyer leads to a spacious sitting room with a large sofa and lounge chair with big, soft cushions which face an entertainment center with surround-sound speakers.
When we arrived, there were fresh fruits on the dining table and a personalized welcome note from the hotel manager, Goran Aleks. Each room of the suite has a balcony, for a total of four, overlooking the swimming pool and Manila Bay.
The bedroom has another large TV with a DVD player on a chest of drawers facing the king-sized bed. I have to say that Sofitel's pillows are the softest I have ever hugged or laid my head on! And, being the pillow hog that I am, I love that they already put out two pillows per person; in other hotels, we usually have to call housekeeping for extra pillows. (Please pardon hubby-dear's backpack there. And see if you can spot my floppy gray bag in the previous photo.)
Except for the space taken up by the powder room, the bathroom is as long as the suite (this is only one end of it). And it's not just a bathroom; it's also a dressing room, with a vanity, closets and another chest of drawers. Needless to say, the bath is a whirlpool bath.
The last room in the suite, which proved to be a boon to my laptop-toting, sleep-challenged Valentine date, is a study with a wide desk and an armchair with a footstool—perfect for reading. There was another personalized letter for us on the desk, this time listing all the services and privileges that come with being on the exclusive Club Sofitel floor, but more on that some other time.

The Philippine Plaza's lagoon-shaped swimming pool has been famous in Metro Manila since the 1970s when National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin designed it for the Westin group. In 2005, Sofitel took over its operations and refurbished the entire hotel, including the pool which now has bright blue tiles.
Sofitel Manila has every right to boast that it is Metro Manila's only resort hotel. With twelve acres of landscaped gardens beside Manila Bay, it is easy to forget that the big, bustling metropolis is just a kilometer away.

I feel like howling
A full moon over the Hotel Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. Sofitel is located in the same complex as the Cultural Center of the Philippines and overlooks Manila Bay and its beautiful sunsets. Its flagship restaurant is Spiral, famous in the metro for its huge buffet spread. Its bar, 7Pecados by the Bay, I've featured quite a few times already.

Last theme
We weren't able to go to the December 2 Marker Party at Sofitel Manila's 7Pecados by the Bay, but it turned out that it wasn't the last of the themed parties. There was another one on December 9, and its theme was "Glitter…
and Glow." They gave all the guests glow-in-the-dark bracelets. Hubby dear got a blue one and mine was orange.
There was a different band that night, Arpie and The Multivitamins. The guy in the hat (I think he's Arpie but I don't know for sure) seems to moonlight as a stand-up comedian too—he was really funny, but only when he was speaking in Tagalog. He kept teasing the female singer that she looked like a bangus (milkfish) in her sequined dress.

The oriental side
A contender for yesterday's theme day post because of the servers waiting for diners to sit on their side of the large restaurant that is Spiral in Sofitel Manila. If I didn't know any better and if it weren't for the wrought iron detail of the counter, I wouldn't have thought this was the same restaurant as this.
